Privacy at Shared.pet
Shared.pet helps people get to know one another and build voluntary pet-sharing relationships. This notice explains how information is used when you browse, create an account, communicate, or buy a membership or gift.
Operator: Vertigo Holdings LLC, a Montana limited liability company, operating as Shared.pet. For privacy questions, email privacy@shared.pet. For account or billing help, email support@shared.pet.
Information we collect
Account information includes your name, email address, authentication information, account settings and records needed to keep your account secure. Profile information includes what you tell us about your location, household, schedule, experience and preferences. Pet information can include photos, age, breed, behaviour, care instructions and veterinary or emergency details. Information about a pet can also reveal information about a person or household.
We process introductions, messages, meetings, trial feedback, sharing plans, agreements, reports, blocks and support correspondence. Membership and gift records can include the payer, recipient, selected plan, amount, currency, payment status and payment-provider identifiers. Stripe processes payment credentials; do not send full card details to Shared.pet support.
Technical and operational records may include IP-derived location, device/browser information, authentication sessions, timestamps and service logs. Referral and creator-program records connect invitations and eligible activity to the relevant program. We also receive information from other members, such as an invitation or a safety report, and from service providers carrying out these functions.
Why we use it
We use information to operate accounts and profiles; suggest possible matches; enable communication and sharing plans; process memberships, gifts and relevant partner activity; answer requests; protect members and animals; prevent abuse and fraud; resolve disputes; and meet legal obligations.
Location and activity information also help us understand where the community needs more owners or sharers. We use aggregated information for that planning rather than publicly identifying individual households. We explain a materially different use before starting it and seek consent where required. A change to this page is not, by itself, your consent to a new use.
What other people can see
Your published profile and pet photos are intended to be seen by other members using discovery and profile features. Do not treat public profile text as private. Avoid exact addresses, personal contact details, identity documents, children's names or schedules, and information about another person without their permission.
Discovery uses approximate location rather than your postal code or exact address. Private care details, medical notes and emergency arrangements are subject to separate access controls. Share them only with the appropriate people when needed. People you share information with may remember it, take screenshots, or retain their own records; we cannot undo those actions.
Messages are available to their participants and may be processed for safety and contact-policy checks. Authorized staff may access information for support, moderation, security, legal requests or other necessary administration. Safety reports are not a public profile feature. We restrict access, but cannot promise absolute secrecy if investigation or a legal obligation requires disclosure.
Matching, suggestions and AI
Matching uses the information supplied about people, pets and their preferences. A score is a starting point for discussion, not a background check, professional assessment or guarantee. You can change profile answers and ask us to review a concern about how information was used.
We use language-model services through OpenRouter for functions such as suggestions, assistant conversations and text moderation. Relevant text, instructions and context may be sent to OpenRouter and the model provider selected for that request. Messages and profile text may be checked for contact details or harmful content. A moderation result may prevent publication; contact support if you think it was mistaken.
Do not put medical records, passwords, payment details, private addresses or unnecessary information about other people into an AI conversation. Review suggestions before using them, especially anything affecting safety. Breed tendencies do not establish an individual pet's behaviour. AI-provider availability, locations and retention practices may differ; we do not promise that all providers have zero retention or never use data for training.
Service providers and cross-border processing
Our current service uses Cloudflare for hosting, storage and routing; ImageKit for images and image delivery; Brevo for service email; Stripe for payments and billing; and OpenRouter and selected model providers for AI features. These providers receive the information needed for the functions we use. Some providers also have independent obligations and their own privacy notices.
Information may be stored or processed outside your province, territory, state or country, including in the United States. It may be subject to lawful access under the laws of the place of processing. We remain responsible for the information we entrust to service providers as required by applicable law.
We may also disclose information when necessary to comply with law, protect people or animals, investigate abuse, pursue or defend a legal claim, or carry out a business transfer with appropriate safeguards and notice. This is not permission for unrelated marketing use.
Cookies, preferences and community measurement
The site uses browser storage and session mechanisms for functions such as sign-in, security, theme choices and saved setup answers. Some functions will not work if you block necessary storage. Referral identifiers can be used to attribute an invitation or eligible activity under a referral or creator program.
Email and your choices
Account, security, billing and requested support emails are different from optional marketing. You can use available notification controls and unsubscribe from optional marketing without closing your account. Where consent is required for promotional messages, it must be obtained and recorded. Essential service messages may still be needed while you use the service. We do not treat account creation alone as blanket consent to unrelated promotions.
Keeping and deleting information
We keep information for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes described here and applicable legal obligations, not simply because storage is available. Different periods may apply to account content, security logs, financial records, safety reports, disputes, backups and immutable administrative records.
You can request account deletion in Settings. Some accounts require support-assisted deletion because related records cannot be removed automatically. Deleting an account does not necessarily erase another member's copy of a message, a completed agreement, payment records or information subject to a legitimate preservation obligation. We explain any applicable exception and restrict retained information to the reason it is being kept.
Access, corrections and privacy requests
You can edit many answers in your profile and request an account data export in Settings. The standard export is not necessarily every record that may be responsive to a legal access request. Email privacy@shared.pet for access, correction, deletion, consent-withdrawal or other privacy requests, or if you cannot use your account.
Tell us what you would like to do and the email associated with your account. We may ask for proportionate information to verify the request or an authorized representative; do not email identity documents unless we arrange a suitable method. We will assess applicable rights, respond within the time required by law, and explain a refusal or extension where required. Withdrawing information needed for a feature may mean that feature can no longer be provided.
Canadian rights depend on the applicable federal or provincial law. You can raise unresolved concerns with the relevant privacy regulator. U.S. state rights may include access, correction, deletion, portability, appeals and specified opt-outs, subject to the law's applicability and exceptions. Contact us to exercise a right or appeal our response. You will not be penalized for exercising a legally protected privacy right.
Children and sensitive information
Shared.pet is intended for adults, not accounts operated by children. Do not create an account for a child or provide identifying information about children in a public profile. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact privacy@shared.pet so we can investigate and take appropriate steps. Avoid disclosing sensitive information unless a feature actually needs it and an appropriate explanation and safeguard are in place.
Security and changes
We use access controls and other safeguards appropriate to the service, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your sign-in secure and tell us about suspected misuse. We will assess incidents and provide notifications when required by applicable law.
The publication date shown on this page is its effective date. Material changes will receive appropriate notice; where required, we will seek fresh consent. Contact privacy@shared.pet for an accessible copy or help understanding this notice.
